Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through Wednesday. Freezing drizzle will begin early Sunday morning and continue through mid-morning, at which time it will turn to snow which will continue through Monday morning. Snow accumulations of 2-4 inches is predicted.
Any icing and snow on already frozen surfaces will quickly become problematic, making travel dangerous. Blowing snow in some areas will reduce visibility at times and snow may obscure ice underneath. TxDOT and City crews are treating roads, however this does not make travel safe.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits – the coldest weather in Central Texas in 31 years. Bitterly cold air will combine with gusty winds to produce wind chill values of -15 to 5 degrees Monday morning. These values can lead to hypothermia for anyone.
If you do not need to travel, please stay home.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Dress appropriately by wearing multiple layers with proper gloves, socks and footwear and keep your head and ears covered.
