MARBLE FALLS, TX – Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of an accident earlier today that resulted in a gas leak and subsequent road closure at the 900 block of Via Viejo and eastbound lanes of FM 1431. The turn lane on FM 1431 was used to mitigate traffic going eastbound. The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m., when a vehicle struck a gas meter during a single-car accident.
Local authorities, including the Marble Falls Fire Department and Marble Falls Police Department, as well as Atmos and PEC crews, responded quickly to secure the area and contain the leak. Nearby buildings have been temporarily evacuated as a precaution, and gas service are suspended in the immediate area.
“We’re grateful there were no reported injuries and that our teams were able to respond quickly,” said Trisha Ratcliff, Assistant Chief, Marble Falls Police Department. “The safety of our residents remains our top priority.”
As of 10:25 a.m., the 900 block of Via Viejo and eastbound lanes FM 1431 remain closed to all traffic while crews work to repair the damaged infrastructure and ensure the area is safe. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, but the turn lane will remain open as a temporary eastbound lane.
