[ARCHIVED] Celebrating the Holidays During COVID-19

Gatherings during the holiday season can be an opportunity to connect with family and friends, however, it is more important than ever to consider how your holiday plans can be modified to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The safest option this year is to stay at home and celebrate only with your household members.  But for those who decide that they wish to gather during the pandemic can help minimize the spread of COVID-19 by washing hands, wearing a mask, social distancing and avoiding indoor gatherings.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Service COVID dashboard there have been 167 new cases reported in Burnet County in the past two weeks.

“We are concerned about the significant increase in local case numbers and hospitalizations.  The hospital stated they are seeing a very high number of patients with COVID-19 and hospitalizations levels in Marble Falls are similar to those seen in El Paso earlier this fall.  We know people wish to gather for the holidays, but it is important that we keep ourselves and loved ones safe by only gathering with those in our household.” – Mayor John Packer

While we await the widespread availability of coronavirus vaccines, we need to change our behaviors to help prevent the spread of the virus.  Practicing COVID-19 safety protocols will reduce hospitalizations and intensive care unit admissions and ensure that our hospitals are ready for those who need care most during this time.
